7th February 2009 – A Tyrant’s Diary

7th February 2009

Dear Diary,

The war is finally over.

Bimkunda has been caught and elections have been announced.

But my people are not celebrating. Not the way they did when Killinochchi was captured.

I was confused at first but I suddenly realized why.

There is no one left to report the victory!!!

All the journalists have been killed and the media stations burnt down.

Of course the paper that brings you the daily news is still being printed and the media stations down Bullers road are still functioning.

But the people don’t believe them anyway.

I’m bored. Maybe I’ll start another war.

  1. When the Nazis came for the communists,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a communist.

    When they locked up the social democrats,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a social democrat.

    When they came for the trade unionists,
    I did not speak out;
    I was not a trade unionist.

    When they came for the Jews,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a Jew.

    When they came for me,
    there was no one left to speak out.

    Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)
